Born in Kotor on August 17, 1961.
A graduate Lawyer; Oral Master's Examination in International Relations passed at the Faculty of Law in Belgrade.
He was elected for the third time for the President of Montenegro on 6th May 2009.
President of the Parliament of Montenegro as of October 22, 2007, and Head of the Parliament of Montenegro Delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
After the referendum on the state status of Montenegro and the victory of the Coalition "For European Montenegro - DPS - SDP" in October 2006, he was elected as the President of the Constituent Assembly of the Republic of Montenegro and as the Chairperson of the Constitutional Committee of the Constituent Assembly of the Republic of Montenegro.
President of the Parliament of the Republic of Montenegro as of 2003 to 2006.
President of the SDP Deputy Group in the Parliament of the Republic of Montenegro from 1998 to 2003.
Elected as a Deputy to six Plenums of the Parliament of the Republic of Montenegro - first time being in 1989 - as well as to the Parliament of both the FRY and the State Union of S&M during the period from 1993 to 1997 and from 2003 to 2006 respectively.
A fonder and a long-standing Vice President of the Social Democratic Party, which is a full member of the Socialist International.
Political career started in the late 80s. He was a member of the Presidency of the Reform Forces for Montenegro in 1990.
